Our Company

Holding the World Together Since 1945

Baden Steelbar & Bolt Corp. was founded in 1945 by Ralph Holzbach. He began operating the fastener company in the basement of his hardware store, Baden Hardware, in Baden, Pennsylvania. The region's had a growing steel industry and Mr. Holzbach recognized the need for fastener products.  He began the small company with only himself, a few employees and a handful of machines. Located just 25 minutes northwest of Pittsburgh, and not far from Ohio and West Virginia, Baden Steelbar & Bolt had a wide open market and territory to supply. As business grew beyond the capacity of the basement, Ralph was encouraged to set his goals higher and to relocate to a more conducive site. WWII had ended and a housing facility for area war effort workers was being torn down, divided into lots, and sold.  Mr. Holzbach purchased some of these buildings to house his expanding business.   These buildings, still in use today, once served area workers as a community center, day care, clinic and administrative offices.

Ralph’s son, Mark, began familiarizing himself with the fastener industry while in high school. He attended school in the mornings and worked at the family's business in the afternoons. He was very attentive and quickly learned the skills needed to operate all of the machines used in shop.  Mark was soon able to manage and function in all the departments of the plant. Ralph also educated his son in the running of a company. He made sure that his successor would have a solid foundation built on knowledge, ability, and hands-on experience. By 1985, Ralph was ready to step down and relinquish the reigns as president of Baden Steelbar & Bolt. He was very proud of his son and handed over the daily operations without hesitation. Until his death in September 1995, Ralph would travel daily to the office to deliver the mail, check on business and have lunch with Mark. Those days were to become some of the most cherished and memorable to the employees. Mr. Holzbach was an employer who took personal interest in those who worked for him.

Today, Baden Steelbar & Bolt Corp., continues to operate under the leadership of Mark Holzbach. Mark has brought the
business into the twenty-first century with a combination of his own ingenuity as well as the wealth of knowledge retained
from his father’s instruction. He takes a "hands on" approach within the daily operations. This approach has forged an alliance between all the employees and encouraged them to utilize their own talents and abilities to unite and work as a team. The end result is total customer satisfaction.
